A loan of $1,075 helped to buy a biodigester, which converts animal waste into fuel.

José Francisco's story

José Francisco, a dairy farmer in Mexico State, processes much of his milk into cheese and yogurt because he can sell them at higher and more stable prices than milk. However, production is energy intensive and requires multiple tanks of non-renewable and expensive LP gas per month. That is why he is requesting a loan to buy a 16-cubic-meter Sistema Biobolsa biodigester that will convert the abundant cow manure on his farm into renewable fuel, and give him a cleaner, more environmentally-friendly and cheaper energy source. The system will also generate hundreds of liters of fertilizer per day for use on the maize and alfalfa he uses as animal feed. This loan represents almost half of the total cost of the Sistema Biobolsa biodigester he plans to buy.
