A loan of $1,200 helped to purchase equipment and supplies for starting a dental clinic.

Margalita's story

Margalita is from the Chokhatauri district. She is 34 years old, married and lives with her family: her husband and parents-in-law. Her husband works as a police officer and her mother-in-law is a doctor locally. Both of family members get monthly salaries. Besides, Margalita’s father-in-law is provided with a retirement pension.

Margalita has requested loan from local financial institutions several times for a business start-up, but without any success. Her loan request was rejected each time because of lack of experience in new business, which is usually demanded by local credit providers.

Her loan request was approved in the frames of a new joint initiative of Kiva and Credo. The start-up loan program envisages provision of business start-up and re-startup credits with soft conditions to the country's rural poor who do not have access to credit products, being regarded as “high risk borrowers” because of low income.

With the requested loan, Margalita will start up a dental clinic locally. She will purchase dental equipment and operative supplies to satisfy the professional needs of the dentists that will be working at her clinic. Margalita hopes her business will be profitable because of the price range and well qualified dentists. This will increase her income and the family members will be able to increase their spending to satisfy their daily needs, in order to improve their living conditions.
