A loan of $400 helped to buy cacao seedlings, organic fertilizer, and hire day laborers.

Maria's story

Maria is 47 years old and lives her life at the side of Manuel, who is 54. The one thing that completes her happiness is her little Antony, 13. Together they form a family where love and work are their reasons for being.

Thanks to all their years of work and effort they have managed to finish building a home made from good quality materials. She farms the parcels of land that she and Manuel have acquired. For 20 years they have been managing to establish cacao plantings, which over time have achieved an enviable quality.

During all this time she has had various life experiences, both good and bad, but always at the side of her partner. He in turn is her faithful work companion, not to forget the day laborers that she hires to help with the necessary work.

In beginning next year's cacao season, she has carried out the reconditioning of a part of her land to render it more productive, and ready for the planting of the seedlings or young cacao, for which she must acquire these plants and also buy sacks of organic fertilizer.

Another of the her requirements for optimizing her output is to bring in day laborers for the planting of temporary shade trees which are very necessary so that the sun doesn't directly affect the plantings.

This is how she carries on with quite a bit of motivation, since one of her long-term objectives is to acquire a home in the region's capital. This is so that in the future she can send her son to a fine university for his post-secondary studies

This is her first loan with MFP. She is very happy and promises to be punctual in making her installment payments. She sees her fellow communal bank members as a good team; responsible and supportive, and this makes her feel very confident.

With the 1000 nuevos soles she has been granted, she will buy cacao seedlings, as well as sacks of organic fertilizer. The remaining money will help pay for the day laborers for the tree-planting.
