Fredrick is 37 years old and married with four children aged between 1 and 10 years old. He is a small-scale farmer from Kitale town in western Kenya. He has been practicing mixed farming for ten years now, producing maize, tomatoes, beans and milk, which are all sold locally. He also operates a phone and battery charging business in the same town.
Fredrick has made a loan request of 62,400 KES (Kenyan shillings) through Juhudi Kilimo in order to purchase and insure a dairy cow. This loan will enable him to acquire a quality dairy cow that will produce enough milk for domestic consumption and sale. The proceeds from the sale of milk will help him improve the livelihood of his family. He faces the challenges of diseases and lack of enough animal feed.
He hopes to expand his dairy farming by acquiring additional dairy cows in the near future.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
