A loan of $375 helped a member to buy fashionable shoes to sell.

Barbra's Group's story

Barbra is 22 years old and lives in Seeta town in the Mukono region of Uganda. For the past three years, she has been working hard to manage her shoe-selling business. She is a member of a two-person loan group comprised of hardworking women.

Barbra is requesting a 400,000 UGX loan from BRAC Uganda to buy more fashionable shoes to sell. Her loan will help her generate greater profits to improve her family's standard of living. Barbra hopes that in the future she will be able to own a better shop that sells good shoes.

Barbra is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
