A loan of $1,100 helped to purchase baking molds, display cases and flour.

María Elena's story

Señora María is requesting her third loan from the communal bank Renacer Uncovia. She lives in the center of Cuenca, a city that has a cold climate, is bathed by four rivers and has been, thanks to its colonial architecture and friendly, kind people that still preserve their culture and village traditions, a World Heritage site since 1999. Señora María is a 30-year old single mother who has a 6-year old son. Her son goes to a small school in the city. She does not have her own home and instead is a renter. Señora María works in a bakery and is paid a monthly salary. She also makes cakes and cookies etc. independently in her home whenever she has orders. She has had her business for eight years. On weekends, she helps her mother to sell food; they make all kinds of dishes. She is going to invest her loan in the purchase of baking molds, display cases and flour to continue growing her own pastry business. Señora María's goal is to own her own home.
