A loan of $975 helped to buy spark plugs, chains, bearings, and other spare parts.

Jose's story

José, age 47, is a determined and kind man. He lives in his own home with his common-law partner Ameli, who manages a beauty salon and has been doing very well. They have three children (ages 22, 15, and 4) and want to provide them a good education.

José’s work involves selling spare parts for motorized vehicles such as spark plugs, chains, bearings, and other items. He also performs vehicle repairs and is able to fix engines, bearings, electrical systems, and many other things. José performs his work in a shop located inside of his home. He started in this line of work at the age of 12 by helping out at his uncle’s repair shop. At that point, he knew that this would be the career he wanted to pursue. José has been doing this type of work for 35 years and now he has the help of his son, who works as his assistant and is also practicing the trade at an institute. He says that his business is profitable because he only had to make an initial investment – the purchase of the necessary tools for repairing vehicles. Prior to pursuing this profession full-time, José thought he would start a business of buying and selling timber. However, he did not know anything about this trade, so he ended up getting swindled and losing all of his capital. After that, he made the decision to return to his previous skillset of repairing vehicles since that is what he knows best. In addition, he would have the opportunity to work at home and be with his family. He hopes to improve his shop in the future by acquiring a lathe and a grinder.

José is requesting a loan of 2,500 PEN so that he can buy spare parts such as spark plugs, chains, bearings, and other items. He will buy these items wholesale in the city of Lima, which will help him increase his earnings.
