Tamara is a 35-year-old married woman from Lebanon. She is living with her husband and four children. Two of her children are still attending school. In 2009, in order to supplement the family’s income, she decided to start her own home business. She’s a bread baker. She prepares bread and delivers it to her neighbors in town and the surrounding areas. Her husband, who works on his own, represents the main income source of the family.
Today, she is asking to borrow a loan from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l to purchase ingredients for the bread and better improve her business. She states that the loan will certainly help her increase her business productivity by a large percentage, which will earn her higher profits. In the future, she plans to diversify her products and, therefore, attract additional clients.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
