Silas is a 47-year-old farmer from Nkubu county in Kenya where he lives with his wife. He has been practicing mixed farming for over 20 years, producing tea, peas, milk, beans and maize, which he sells at the local market in his local area.
He is requesting a loan of 45,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry birds. The proceeds from the products he will sell will be used to improve his poultry business and his livelihood. He aspires to buy another one-acre piece of land in the next five years.
The high cost of feed and the poor market for his products are his main challenges in farming.
Silas is happy with the way Juhudi Kilimo is processing loans.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
