A loan of $900 helped a member to purchase ingredients for a restaurant.

Yelen Group's story

Yelen is a group of six women who have come together by virtue of family and neighbourhood ties. They have an average age of forty, and on average four children each. They undertake various activities, such as the purchase and sale of condiments, and providing meals - like Fanta who is the person seated on the right of the photo.
They live in large traditional families in Ouelessebougou (the Koulikoro region). They have been trading for several years and are highly sought after in their respective businesses.
With the objective of meeting the growing needs of their customers, the members of the group decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso credit group one year ago. They are on their second collective loan. Fanta, who is the group leader and very well known in Ouelessebougou, excels in the restaurant business. She plans to use her loan to purchase condiments, onions, cabbages, meat and cereals. She buys her produce in Bamako and locally from wholesalers, and sells her food products in Ouelessebougou, retail - for cash and credit, to a customer base of both men and women.
She hopes to obtain a monthly profit of 30,000 FCFA - enough to allow her to repay the loan and to invest further in her business.

In this group: Fanta, Aba, Katrine, Fatoumata, Fatoumata, Djelika
