A loan of $550 helped to buy fabric.

Teresa De Jesús's story

Teresa is one of the Atenas communal bank founding members. She’s a kind, gracious woman with a good sense of humor. She lives near downtown Cuenca, a city of great natural and architectonic beauty that’s bathed by four rivers; it’s a city full of kind, warmhearted people.

Teresa is 48-years-old, divorced but has four children; two of them are married and living on their own and two attend a high-school in the city. She does not own a house; she rents.

Teresa works at home making guaipe [cleaning rags], an activity she’s been in for six years. She’s also been caring for a senior citizen Monday through Friday for two years and she also works cleaning houses when called to do so. She will use her loan to buy fabric to manufacture guaipe. Her goal is to have a food business.
