A loan of $775 helped to purchase a dryer and a steamer for her salon.

Mastula's story

Mastulla is 49 years old and lives in the town of Kitintale in the Kampala South region of Uganda. She is widowed and has two children. For the past 4 years, Mastulla has been working hard to manage her salon, which works on women and men's hair with a video library that rents out video tapes and cds.

To help expand her business into a big unisex salon, Mastulla has requested a loan of 2,000,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy a dryer,a steamer and video tapes for renting out to her customers and will help Mastulla to generate greater profits and increase her daily sales. Mastulla hopes that in the future she will be able to own a unisex salon.

Mastulla is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Mastulla who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
