Isabela's story

Isabela is 63 years old. She is an innovative and hard-working woman and a dreamer. She lives in her own house together with Edmundo, her live-in partner who is also her partner in the work she does: growing citrus fruits such as limes, mandarines and oranges. She also works raising cattle as a secondary activity. She carries out her work on her farm, which is one kilometer from her home. She has been growing citrus fruits for 20 years, since previously she did not have the means to support her family. Because of this, they decided to dedicate themselves to this activity. Now together with her partner and 2 contracted workers, they water, fertilize and cultivate the crops. When they harvest the fruits, they transport them to the various markets of the city and sell them on a wholesale basis. She considers her business profitable, since the prices for citrus fruits are rising. When she began working in this area, she did not have sufficient knowledge about citrus fruits and did not have enough capital. Thus, she decided to become informed and get training, and she decided together with her partner to take out a loan to start her economic activity. She hopes to continue to maintain her business, which keeps growing day by day. Thus, this will be loan number 20 for her with the MFP institution, and she is very grateful to the institution because the loan will help her increase her capital. She gets along very well with the people in the group where she is a member, because all of them have the desire to keep growing and to be punctual with their payments. With the amount she is requesting, 4000 soles, she will buy fertilizers and compost to obtain good production, and she will also pay the laborers who help her grow and harvest her products.
