A loan of $300 helped to buy talc, cologne, shampoo, creams and hair products.

Adtrid's story

Astrid, 37, lives in the city of Barranquilla. She’s a communal mother, that is, she participates in a program of the Colombian government by which pre-school age children are assigned to her and to her home so that she can care for them and feed them while their parents who are her neighbors work.

By means of this community work, Astrid has met many people who have become her main customers in her business selling beauty products on credit. She learned this business from her mother more than 14 years ago since she worked selling assorted merchandise and taught her how to choose her beauty products credit customers, how to collect her accounts receivable and her parents also gave her initial capital to work with. This is how she started and today it’s a business that generates income she can support her home consisting of her spouse and three children aged between 6 and 15 with.

Her goal is to multiply her sales and this is one of her greatest challenges because she does not have sufficient working capital to quickly increase them, especially during this end-of-year season when she’s able to sell out everything she stocks. This is why she’s calling on a Kiva loan to buy talc, cologne, shampoo, creams and hair products because her greatest goal is to expand her market; she will gradually accomplish this with well-applied business loans.
