Cruz Orfelia's story

In the city of Portoviejo the communal bank Constructoras Del Éxito (Successful Builders) meet every two weeks. This city is long known by the name of Ciudad del Valle (City of the Valley) because it’s surrounded by many hills.

Cruz lives her. She is 66 years old and is separated and has three children from this relationship however, one child died several years ago; the two who are living are older, independent and live near her. Cruz, to earn her livelihood from the fruits of her labour, put a small bar in her house where she sells candy, ice cream, sodas, corviches (dish made from green bananas and fish), empanadas, and fresh juice. She has been working every day for 20 years and this was how she was able to raise her children alone.

This loan is to buy sodas, candy, snacks and provisions. She has been in the communal bank for three years and she likes how quickly she receives the loans.

Her dream is to be healthy in order to continue working.
