A loan of $550 helped a member to stock more fresh food and cooking ingredients.

Harriet's Group's story

Harriet is 20 years old and is single with one child. She lives in the town of Kamwenge in the Fortportal region of Uganda. For the past two years, Harriet has been working hard to manage her small business where she sells tomatoes, fresh fruit, and cooked food. She is a member of a loan group comprised of four hardworking women.

Harriet is requesting a 500,000 UGX to stock more fresh food and cooking ingredients. She will use the profits from her loan to generate greater profits and pay her medical bills. Harriet hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business and have a hotel.

Harriet is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and is a forum for life-skills training.
