A loan of $250 helped to buy hair extensions for sale.

Lilian's story

Lilian is 19 years old and lives in the town of Kamwenge in the Fortportal region of Uganda. She is single and has one child. For the past three years, Lilian has been working hard to manage her salon, which provides hairdressing services.

To help expand her business, Lilian has requested a loan of 600,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more styled hair extensions. This will help Lilian to generate greater profits and provide for her own and her family's basic needs. Lilian hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business into a bigger salon.

Lilian is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
