Mina's story

Mina is 40 years old. She is married and has one child, aged 12. In 2000, she established her poultry farming business. Working 7 days a week and 4 hours a day, she suports her family. She has already received and successfully repaid three loans from Patan BPW and used her most recent to buy small chickens for her business.

In the Kathmandu Valley, raising poultry for eggs and meat is a very profitable business. Kiva loans are used to purchase chicks, food, and necessary medicine to keep the chickens healthy. Once matured, the chickens are sold at small butcher shops or in the many open air markets throughout the valley.
