A loan of $225 helped a member to buy fertilizer and rice seeds for her farmland.

Chy's Group's story

Chy, 29, is married and lives with her family in a village of the Thmor Koul district of Battambang province, Cambodia. She has one son who is still in school. For the last seven years, Chy and her husband have been farming rice as their main source of income. Sometimes, she sells rice soup in the local area to earn additional income for the family. Together, they can earn about 60,000 KHR per day through their current business and manage to save about 15,000 KHR each day after offsetting daily expenses. Chy’s group consists of two members; this is Chy’s third loan cycle with VisionFund. The past loans, which she successfully repaid, have helped her support the family with sufficient food. Now she is leading her group to request a new loan. Chy, who is the leader, will use her portion to buy fertilizer and rice seeds for her farmland and to spend on labor costs. She hopes to get a high crop yield from her rice-paddy so as to make a better living and keep her son in school.
