Gertrude J.'s Group's story

Pictured here are teachers from one of the vocational institutes in Makama village, an outskirt of Makeni city. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of SLL15,400,000 for the entire group in order to meet their immediate financial needs. At the end of each month, they will repay the loan using their monthly salaries. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for deducting the repayment and pays SMT/Kiva lenders on their behalf.

Daniel is the featured leader of this group of teachers. Daniel, 42, is a native of Makeni. He is married and has four children. His wife is a teacher and his children attend primary and secondary schools. Daniel has been a school teacher for 14 years now. Daniel wants to pursue further studies in college. He has requested this loan in order to pay his college fees.
