A loan of $1,150 helped to hire workers and buy organic fertilizer.

Sonia's story

Sonia, 50, and her common-law husband, Jaime, have six children; but only two still live at home; Karina and Juan. The family lives in their own house in the rural district. Sonia is a very attentive, charismatic woman who has been involved in farming since she was a little girl. Her parents taught her the technique of crop-farming and also how to be good at selling her produce. For 22 years now she has been growing her own crops (bananas, avocados, coffee, pepper and ginger), which she cares for with hard work because she would not want to disappoint her parents. Sonia's effort and consistency allow her to sell her produce at a good price, and merchants visit the area to put in their highest bid for her crops. Therefore, she is planning to improve crop quality begin selling coffee to exporters.

Now she wants to clean the cropland and spread around organic fertilizer, but she needs help. She belongs to the communal bank "La Unión hace la fuerza del palomar" and this is her third loan through MFP. She is counting on your help to meet her goals. Sonia plans to clean her cropland and use the loan to hire workers and buy bags of organic fertilizer.
