A loan of $675 helped to buy fabrics, threads, fasteners and other materials for sewing.

Filerma Narciza's story

In the Rocafuerte area, members of Banco Comunal Dulce Amistad (Sweet Friendship Communal Bank) meet every fortnight. This area is known for its delicious sweet treats which are prepared by locals who are renowned all over the country for being warm, friendly and hard-working.

Filerma lives in this area. She is 54 years old, divorced but with four children from the relationship. They are all grown up and one of them still lives with her.

Several years ago, Filerma learnt dressmaking at an academy in Playa Pieta. Now, she is a dressmaker and has a small workshop where she has sewed for many years. She makes all types of clothing but she most enjoys making girl's clothing and casual clothes. She works based on orders from individuals who request what they need. She works everyday from 6am to 10pm and sometimes even later when she has orders that need finishing. She has done this for 20 years and with the profits of her hard work she has helped her children get ahead.

She is going to use this new loan to buy fabric, threads, fasteners and other sewing materials. She is a founding member of the communal bank and she likes it because the interest rates are lower than in other lending institutions.

Her dream is to have a bigger workshop and better machines.
