Felinda Caridad's story

In the Rocafuerte area, members of Banco Comunal Dulce Amistad (Sweet Friendship Communal Bank) meet every fortnight. This area is known for its delicious sweet treats which are prepared by locals who are renowned all over the country for being warm, friendly and hard-working.

Felinda, aged 65 and married with three grown up and independent children, lives in this area. Her husband is a farmer and stockbreeder.

Felind has a café in a tourist site in Jaguas de Rocafuerte. The river Portoviejo crosses this place and so it's very attractive to visitors who can swim and have a lovely day together with their families. She works on Saturdays and Sundays and offers a large variety of dishes especially typical local dishes. Her speciality is broth and chicken stew which is in high demand from her customers. She has had this business for 6 years and it is going very well.

This loan is to help her buy necessary ingredients so she can make the meals. She is a founding member of the communal bank and she likes it because they always help her with loans.

Her dream is to have a big restaurant.
