Katy Lorena's story

Katy is 21 years old and lives in the southern part of the city where she works sewing apparel including shirts, pants, dresses and infant clothing. She learned this trade from her mother-in-law who works in this as well and began with her four years ago. Their work includes taking measures, dyeing, cutting, prepping and putting together pieces and finally, organizing the small business together.

Katy lives with her partner and 4 year old son who motivates her in her work. She hopes that he will be a successful and appreciated professional in the future. Katy works in her workshop from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm, especially during the holiday season which is approaching at the end of this year. Her greatest challenge is having the working capital to buy and create a lot of tailored clothing that her customers would like for the end of the year, which includes elegant apparel. This is Katy's plan which she approached Fundaciòn Mario Santo Domingo with to apply for a Kiva loan. With the loan she will buy a sewing machine, fabric, threads, buttons, adornments and accessories that wiill make her finished products of greater quality and offer a distinguished look to all those who wear Katy's products.
