A loan of $550 helped to purchase a shampoo chair and basin for her salon.

Eika Patricia's story

Erika, 38, lives in the municipality of Malambo and earns a living offering personal improvement services in her beauty salon business. She is a married woman with two children aged six and 13 whom she dreams of seeing as successful adults. Erika has three years of experience in her work which arose out of her talent for beauty and grooming. Thus when she thought about starting a micro-business she decided on what she enjoyed the most. In her business she offers hair straightening, hair styling, pedicures, manicures and hair cuts, usually from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. and often later. Her primary customers are family members, neighbors, friends and many referrals from her friends who do not hesitate to recommend her for the quality of her services.

Currently she is applying for a Kiva loan, her first loan with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, with which she will purchase a shampoo chair and basin which will allow her to reduce service time and improve her business's image. Her goal is to have her own well-outfitted establishment where her customers may enjoy a much more comfortable environment and choose to come back for consulting and/or expressing a very high-quality personal or professional image.
