Tamaraneh Group's story

In the photo are members of the “Tamaraneh” group. They are small scale business women based in Makeni, a city in Northern Sierra Leone. This is the first loan these entrepreneurs are accessing from SMT/Kiva lenders. With this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more profit and consequently improve upon their standard of living.

The leader of this group is Isha. Isha is age 40; she was born in Makeni city where she is currently residing together with her husband and three children. Her husband is an NGO worker, and one of her children is attending primary school. For more than ten years now, Isha has been selling market food: palm-oil (the country’s most popular cooking oil), margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), salt, pepper, etc. With the help of this loan, Isha is going to buy the above mentioned items at wholesale to add to her business.
