A loan of $1,375 helped a member to buy and sell clothing.

Faïda Group's story

The seven members of the "Faïda" group are mainly married women, on average 36 years old with four children, and live mostly in monogamous households in Hamdallaye, a populous district in the city of Sikasso. They are on their third loan with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to satisfy their customers' needs. Ms. Mariam runs a business selling pagnes wax (a type of brightly-printed clothing) as part of the Faïda group of women, and is standing in the middle in the photo. With her loan, she intends to buy about five sets of pagnes wax, which she will resell at retail in cash in the area to a clientele composed mainly of women. She foresees realizing an average monthly profit of 22,500 FCFA, of which one portion will be used to repay the loan and its interest, and the remainder will be saved.
