A loan of $675 helped to buy vegetable plants.

Mariuxi Magdalena's story

Mariuxi is taking out a second loan with the communal bank Medio Ejido. She lives in Cuenca, in the district of San Joaquín. This is a place characterised by very fertile soils, and its people devote themselves to agriculture, growing a large variety of vegetables. The people here are friendly and kind, and they maintain their culture and traditions.

Mariuxi is 27 years old. She lives with her common law husband, and has three children who are 8, 6 and 1 years of age. Her two older children go to a small school in the neighbourhood. Her husband is a driver, and he works for a private company. They do not own their own house, and so they live in rented accommodation.

Mariuxi stays at home looking after the household, and also works in agriculture. She grows vegetables which she sells at a market in town.

The purpose of the loan is to buy vegetable plants.

Her dream is to own her own house.
