Alieu's story

This is 37-year-old Alieu. He is married and has 2 school-going children aged 10 and 6. In 2004, Alieu established his provisions (milk, Ovaltine, sugar, toiletries) business. He began his business because he was not fortunate enough to go to school because his father does not value education and also the tribe that he comes from are known to be traders and cattle rearers.

Alieu grew up rearing cattle. After the war a friend forced him to move to the big town (Makeni town) where he started a peddling business which has improved over the years. Working 7 days a week and 13 hours a day, he earns about Le 567,000 every month from this business. He would like a loan in the amount of Le 5,000,000. Alieu requires a loan in order to purchase phone cards (50,000,000 units @ Le 38,000 = Le 1,900,000), milk (25 pieces @ Le 20,000 = Le 500,000), bathing soap (5 cartons @ Le 60,000 = Le 300,000), sugar (2 bags @ Le 260,000 = Le 520,000), Bond Steet cigarettes (1carton @ Le 1,000,000), Gold Seal Cigarettes (1 carton @ Le 600,000), and toothpaste (1 carton @ Le180,000).
