A loan of $500 helped purchase clothes, sweets and cosmetics.

Bernardo Nicolas's story

Bernardo is 51 years old. He lives in the municipality of Chichigalpa, a place close to the Nicaragua Liquor Company, which is known for its production of sugar cane and spirits. Chichigalpa is also one of the hottest place in Nicaragua.

Two years ago, Bernardo was diagnosed with an illness, from his childhood of harvesting sugar cane, irrigation, and fieldwork. Being diagnosed with this illness, no one will hire him in order to avoid medical expenses, despite the fact that he is a strong man still.

Bernardo wakes up at 6 in the morning everyday to do his daily chores, and then he conducts his sales business. When he can leave, he helps his wife collect her outstanding payments. This loan is to cover family expenses and to invest in his business through the purchase of clothes, sweets and cosmetics.

Bernardo is grateful to CEPRODEL and KIVA, because his and his family’s quality of life is improving, and he calls for their continued support so that everyone who suffers from this disease will be supported.
