A loan of $575 helped a member to buy fertilizers and pesticides for her farmland, as well as chicken feed.

Pov's Group's story

Pov is 57 years old and married. She is a mother of five children, one of whom is dependent and still in school. To make a living, she and her husband have been farming rice for twenty-eight years and supplement their family’s income by raising chickens to better support their big family. They are able to earn about 30,000 KHR per day and manage to save about 15,000 KHR per day after deducting expenses.

Pov’s group consists of two female members who live in the same village of the Thmor Koul district of Battambang province. She is on her eighth loan cycle with Kiva’s Field Partner, VisionFund, while the other member is on her second cycle. The past loans have helped her family to obtain sufficient food.

Now leading her group to apply for another loan, Pov, the leader, will use her portion to buy fertilizers and pesticides for her farmland and will use a portion of it to buy chicken feed. She hopes that this loan will enable her to earn a large income to improve her standard of living and keep her child in school.
