A loan of $675 helped to buy fruit.

Mayra Alexandra's story

Mayra is an active member of the communal bank Las Caleras. She lives in the Las Caleras neighborhood of Cuenca, Ecuador, a city that is full of culture and traditions. The people of Cuenca are very hardworking and entrepreneurial. It is a city surrounded by 4 rivers and the architecture is a mix of colonial and modern styles.

Mayra is 28 years old and a single mother of four children - 10 years old, 7 years old, 3 years old, and 9 months old. Her two oldest children are studying in a school in the city. She does not have her own home but lives in a home owned by a relative.

Mayra works selling fruit in order to support herself and her children. Previously she worked moving around the city, but as of 4 months ago she has her own stall in a market in the city. She works Mondays through Saturdays without a fixed schedule.

This is the third loan that she has received from the communal bank, and she will invest her loan in buying fruit to sell in her stall.

Her dream is to one day have her own home.
