A loan of $775 helped to buy fertilizers, compost, to pay for a machine to plough three ‘manzanas’ [a land measurement unit equivalent to 7000 square meters], and to cultivate the corn..

Andres's story

Andrés, age 50, is married and has eight children. He lives with his wife and three of their children in a village in the Morazan municipality in Yoro.

His main business activity is growing corn. He has been growing his own corn crops for 20 years, and he sells his crops at the local market.

Andrés has decided to request a second loan from ODEF so that he can prepare the land to cultivate corn. The loan is for 15,000 lempiras, which he will use to buy fertilizers, compost, to pay for a machine to plough three ‘manzanas’ [a land measurement unit equivalent to 7000 square meters], and to cultivate the corn.

The loan will help him be more solvent in order to buy the supplies for cash. His goal is to cultivate more plots of land each time in order to increase his income and have a better standard of living with his family.
