Najma's Group
In this Group: Najma, Khalida, Fatima, Tahira, Farzana, Nargis
Ms. Najma, 43 years old, is an active lady who lives with her husband, two sons and three daughters in the city of Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Her husband is a taxi driver, while their elder son is an electrician. Her elder daughter is getting married soon and Najma is worried, as she has insufficient savings to meet her wedding expenses.

Because of her husband’s limited earning power, three years ago Najma began stitching at home for the people who live in her neighbourhood. She serves her community well and has become famous for providing good-quality service.

Her earnings, unfortunately, have been interrupted because her stitching machine is no longer functioning. As a member of a six-person lending group, Najma has requested a loan from Kiva's partner BRAC Pakistan to purchase a new stitching machine for her tailoring business. This will help her to increase savings and hence better support her family.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
