A loan of $4,200 helped a member to buy cosmetics.

Nueva Generación (Cuenca) Group's story

The Nueva Generación communal bank is comprised of nine women and one man who live in different places in the city of Cuenca. This city has magical scenery, and the people who see it are enchanted or fall in love with it. It is a mix of the colonial and the modern. Its food is varied. Our members are known for their great charisma. They work at various business activities, which allow them to be financially independent and to help their households financially. They work every day without rest in order to get ahead. They are proud of still maintaining the culture and traditions of their villages.

Rosa Matilde is one of the members of this group. This is her first loan with the Nueva Generación communal bank. She lives in the Yanuncay area of the city of Cuenca. She is 34 years old, married, and has three children, ages 17, 15, and 10. Her oldest two daughters go to secondary school, and her youngest child goes to a primary school in the city. Her husband works as a policeman. They do not have their own house, so they rent where they live.

Rosa Matilde spends most of her time doing the household chores. However, in order to contribute financially to her household, she sells different brands of cosmetics. She does this in her free time or when she has the opportunity to offer her products to her friends and acquaintances. She has been doing this business activity for five years.

She will use her loan to buy cosmetics that are on special promotion in order to offer them to her discerning clientele.

Her dream is to have her own house.

In this group: Lourdes Catalina, Nelly Fernanda, Karla Valeria, María Isolina, Janeth Rocio, Manuel Luciano, Rosa Lucinda, María Herminia, Digna Soledad, Rosa Matilde
