A loan of $700 helped to purchase a cow and supplies such as compost and fertilizer.

Juan Carlos's story

Juan comes from the rural district of Los Restrojos, Santa Lucia, Boaco. He's 36 years old and has five children aged 12, 14, 16, 18 and 19 years. He's a farmer by trade and grows corn and beans. He has gotten five years' worth of experience without any academic knowledge. He first started working on his father's land at age 12. That's how he acquired experience, since he needed to become independent from his parents and look for a way to provide food for his family. He currently gets help from his children and he sells his produce in the same district where he lives. His expectation is to increase production so that he can improve his family's living conditions.
Juan requests the loan in order to purchase a cow and the rest of it is for purchasing supplies such as compost and fertilizer. That will help him to maintain his crop and increase its production, so he can offer his customers high quality produce at good prices.
