A loan of $4,525 helped a member to buy food for her store.

Josecito De Cumbe (Cuenca) Group's story

The Josecito de Cumbe communal bank is comprised of ten members. They are friends and neighbors from the Cumbe parish in Cuenca. This place is surrounded by beautiful scenery, and its climate is cold. The parish center is a mix of ancient and modern architecture. Its residents, like our members, are nice, kind people. They are looking for the way to get their families ahead. They work in different business activities like agriculture, raising animals, and commerce. Many work in the city or have emigrated in order to look for better work opportunities. They do this in order to financially improve their households.

Blanca, age 58, is one of the members of this group. She is in a common-law marriage, and she has a 12 year old son who goes to a school in the city. Her husband is a tailor, and the house they live in is their own.

Blanca has been tending to her own store for eight years. She works from Sunday to Sunday without a fixed schedule. As her business is in her house, she has the time she needs to take care of her family. She also raises animals like guinea pigs and chickens.

She will use the loan to buy provisions for her store. Her goal is to expand her store and to make a bigger chicken coop in order to raise more of these animals.

In this group: Zoila Rosa, Gloria Janeth, Lourdes Mariela, Sandra Verónica, Rosa Francisca, Zoila María, Dolores Azunción, Rosa Elvira, Blanca Elsa, Diana Alisandra
