Lucia's story

Lucia Aurea is a self-sacrificing 64-year-old woman. She is married to 70-year-old Víctor and her family happiness is made complete by her two children: 20-year-old Anderson and 32-year-old Dina who is a teacher by profession. Lucia owns her own home which is made from solid materials. She has a lot of farming experience as she has been working in this business since she was a very young girl. Throughout her life, this business has enabled her to financially support her children's higher education. She carries out her work with the help of her husband, Víctor. She also has the support of day laborers in her area who help her business run more smoothly. Lucia loves her work as she feels satisfied that she is honoring her parents who worked in this business their whole lives.

As she is at the start of a new season, Lucia would like to re-new her cacao plantings because they are old and unable to continue producing. She plans to buy seedlings to graft and thereby maintain her cacao plantation. She carries out her work on the 14 hectares of land that she owns. She would also like to provide complete care for her other plants by hiring laborers who carry out this type of work.

All of Lucia's efforts and hard work are directed towards continuing to support one of her children who is training to become a professional. "There is no better investment", she says. Lucia has received 8 loans from MFP. She knows that punctuality is necessary in order to be able to take out larger loans in the future. She totally approves of the work that her community bank is doing as she sees an atmosphere of collective economic growth.

Lucia will use her 3,000 soles to buy seedlings to graft. This will enable her to re-new her cacao trees. She will also pay laborers to plant them.
