A loan of $1,200 helped to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and costume jewelry.

Naila Josefina's story

The communal bank "El Pedregal" meets every fifteen days in the El Pedregal community, in the Picoaza parish of the city of Portoviejo. This is a place known for being an active commercial zone, for its traditional festivals of San Pedro and San Pablo, and for the cheerfulness of its people.

In this place lives Naila, who is 32 years old. She has a common-law husband with whom she has three children, aged 11, 10 and 3. The older ones are in school. Her husband is a laborer.

Naila is a housewife, and in order to obtain her own resources and thus help her husband with the household expenses, since he does not earn much from his work, she dedicates herself to selling Avon products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and women's accessories). She works three days a week, from two to three hours a day, either in the morning or the evening, without fixed working hours. She sells her products on credit and collects payments every eight days. She has dedicated herself to this work for three years, and it is going very well for her.

This loan is to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and costume jewelry. This is her third loan cycle in the communal bank, and she likes it because the payments are easy to make.

Her dream is to provide the best for her children.
