Dem S. is 28 years old and a housewife in Kampong Cham province. Her husband earns the household money by managing a small taxi business. He organizes the transport of people and goods between Phnom Penh and Kampong Cham through a number of drivers with their own vehicles. He earn $15 (U.S.) per day through this job and has no other costs to detract from his income. On this salary he supports his wife and only child. He wants to replace one of his older taxis with a newer one. The family’s loan will go towards hiring out this car, which he hopes will increase their income.
