A loan of $400 helped to buy animal feed and ingredients to make chicha.

Martina's story

Martina, 64, is married and lives with her husband in one of the hamlets that make up the rural part of Lambayeque District, an agricultural zone located half an hour from the city of Chiclayo. Life in the community goes by peacefully and humbly; its residents are hardworking, responsible people.

She works raising animals to sell. She raises small farm animals and barnyard fowl in corrals she’s set up near her house. When they reach a good level of development she sells them to merchants who tend to visit the zone frequently. She also makes and sells “chicha de jora,” a traditional beverage made from corn. She uses income earned from these activities to help her husband support the family.

Martina is requesting a 1,000 new sol loan that will help her buy nutritionally balanced animal feed and ingredients to continue making chicha. This is her first Kiva loan and she gives thanks in advance to the people who will support her with the loan.
