The Alide group is composed of three friends. The group’s representative, by the name of Homédokpo, is the one raising her hand in the photo. She has had some formal schooling. She is 52 years old and married to Joseph, a tailor. They have six children, all in school and two still in their care. For almost 20 years, Homédokpo has been selling staple foods (corn, rice etc) out of her home, allowing her to help support her family. Homédokpo stocks up at a market in Benin. With the goal of increasing product stock and better meeting customer demand, Homédokpo, along with the other members of the Alide group, would like to obtain a loan.

Le groupe « ALIDE » est formé de trois personnes qui sont des amies. La représentante de ce groupe, nommée Homédokpo est celle dont la main est levée sur la photo. Homédokpo a eu fréquenté l’école. Homédokpo est âgée de 52 ans et est mariée à un couturier du nom de Joseph. Le couple a six enfants, tous scolarisés, dont deux sont à leur charge. Il y a près de vingt ans que Homédokpo mène comme activité, la vente de produits vivriers (maïs, riz, etc.) à son domicile ; ce qui lui permet de contribuer aux divers besoins de sa famille. Homédokpo s’approvisionne dans un marché du Bénin. Dans le but d’augmenter le stock de ses produits et de mieux répondre à la demande de sa clientèle, Homédokpo désire obtenir un crédit ensemble avec les autres membres de son groupe « ALIDE ».

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
