A loan of $675 helped to buy sewing supplies.

Nancy Mabel's story

The “La Rosa De Guadalupe” communal bank meets every two weeks in the city of Charapoto. This area is known for its traditional culture and also for being located a few minutes away from the best beaches in the San Jacinto and San Clemente province.

Nancy is 40 years old and lives here. She’s married and has three children, ages 20, 19, and 18; all attend school or study at university. Her husband works on occasion.

Nancy learned sewing and clothes making at a local academy and set up a small workshop when she saw that her husband was not able to find work. She is also studying child development and works at a local nursery school in hopes of securing her future by one day obtaining a government position. Through her hard work in her workshop, she helps her children with their education and also helps herself to culminate her own studies.

She will use the money from this loan to buy fabrics, thread, buttons, and various sewing supplies. She has been with the communal bank for four cycles and she enjoys it because of the help she gets through the loans.

Her dream is to be named as a teacher at the school where she works.
