A loan of $650 helped to buy fresh foods and tanks of propane for household use.

Nery Alexandra's story

The communal bank "María Auxiliadora" meets in the parish of Sequita, which is a part of Montecristi, a prosperous canton in Manabí, filled with working men and women who are dedicated and proud of their roots. La Sequita is a parish where the inhabitants are honest people who work hard and devote themselves to their families.

In this area, Nery, a 42 year old woman lives. She is married and has 4 children as a result of this union, all of whom are of age, and two of whom still live with her at home. Her husband works in a tuna processing plant in the city of Manta.

Nery, to make a bit of money, works in commerce, and she has a grocery store in her home where she also sells propane for household use. There she sells all kinds of goods for everyday usage, and she works every day from 6:00am until 8:00pm. In addition, she makes and sells ice cream cones of different flavors, which are very appetizing for her customers. She has been working in this business for the past 12 years, and she loves it because it puts her in constant contact with her friends who are her customers, and so she gets something out of it without even leaving her house.

She plans to use this loan to buy more groceries to fill up her store with products and propane tanks for household use. She has been with the communal bank for more than three years, and she likes it because of the good times that she has with her female friends at their meetings. Her dream is to continue growing her business.
