The MAHOULOME 9 group is made up of three friends living in the same village. Jeanne (who is raising her hand in the photo) is the group's representative. She is 42 years old and married to a man named Jean-Marie. She has six children, all of whom live in the care of their parents and have received schooling. The couple lives together with their children, and both Jeanne and Jean-Marie participate in covering the various expenses. Jeanne did not go to school.

Jeanne sells palm oil and palm wines from her home. She has been running this business for about 15 years now. She stocks up in a region in Benin.

Jeanne is trying to increase her stock of goods for sale in order to raise the level of her business. Doing so will allow her to better meet the demand of her customers. That is why Jeanne, along with the other members of the MAHOULOME 9 group, is seeking a first loan from ALIDé.

Le groupe MAHOULOME 9 est formé de trois personnes qui sont des amies vivant dans le même village. La représentante de ce groupe, Jeanne, celle dont la main est levée sur la photo est âgée de 42 ans. Jeanne est mariée à un certain Jean-Marie et a six enfants, tous scolarisés et à la charge du couple. Le couple vit ensemble avec leurs enfants et assure ensemble les différentes charges. Jeanne n’a pas fréquenté l'école. Jeanne vend de l’huile de palme et des vins de palme à son domicile. Il y a environs quinze ans que Jeanne exerce cette activité. Jeanne s’approvisionne dans une région du Bénin. En vue de rehausser le niveau de son activité, Jeanne ambitionne agrandir son stock de vente; ce qui lui permettra de mieux répondre aux exigences de sa clientèle. Pour ce faire, Jeanne sollicite ensemble avec les autres membres du groupe MAHOULOME 9, un premier crédit auprès de ALIDé.

About Alidé

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients. This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
