A loan of $1,100 helped purchase chickens, beef and seafood.

Aurora Georgina's story

On the beach of San Clemente in the region of Sucre every fifteen days the communal bank "Bankito del Norte" (Little bank of the North) meets. This place is known for its beautiful beaches and are visited by many national and international tourists and offers a variety of different beautiful places and a rich variety of regional dishes.

It is here that Mrs. Aurora lives, she is 59 years old, married and has seven children from this relationship, they are all adults now but two still live with her. Her husband is a fisherman.

Mrs. Aurora, to earn something on her own, runs her own business. She has a small butcher shop she runs from home and she has worked in this capacity for three years, selling chicken, beef by the pound and all kinds of seafood. At her site, she has a refrigerator full of ice cream from which she earns a little extra, especially on the weekends when the tourists come. She works every day from the early morning and goes to the beach to pick up seafood or to the market to purchase meat or chickens.

This loan will help her to purchase more chickens, beef and seafood. She has been with the communal bank since it was formed and she likes being a member because of the help and benefits she receives.

Her dream is to have her own bigger and well stocked store.
