A loan of $650 helped to buy chickens.

Anna Karina's story

In the province of Manabí is the 24 De Mayo canton. There the Caña Brava de 24 De Mayo communal bank meets. The place is known for its beautiful scenery and for its hardworking people who farm and raise animals.

This is where Ana lives. She is 39 years old, married and has two daughters, aged 16 and 12. Both of them are in school. Her husband works in a government office.

She is a teacher at a local school but she also raises animals at home. She built a shed and started by raising chickens. Over time she also built a shed to raise pigs. She feeds them and when they weigh enough she sells them to merchants who go to her house.

She is going to use this loan to buy the largest quantity of chickens she can since Chirstmas is coming and that is when she sells the most. She has been in the bank for three cycles. She is the group's secretary and she likes it because the other members are very organized.

Her dream is to give the best to her daughters.
