A loan of $650 helped purchase chickens, medications, chicken feed and pay laborers.

Zoila Lucia's story

In the Manabí province, we find the 24 de Mayo canton. In this canton, the “Caña Brava de 24 De Mayo” communal bank reunites. This place is known for beautiful scenery and for the hardworking people dedicated to farming and raising animals.

Zoila lives here. She is 58 years old, married and she has four children who are all older and independent. Her husband works in agriculture.

Zoila raises chickens and pigs for eight years. She has done this in order to earn her own income and help pay the expenses that come from the household since her husband doesn’t earn a lot. Her husband constructed a shed that holds more than 200 chickens. They are kept for two the three months and they are given to traders who come to her house.

This loan is for purchasing chickens, medications and chicken feed. It is also for paying the laborers helping her husband who is weeding the plot in order to start sewing the fields. She has been in the communal bank from the beginning. She likes the help that the loans always give.

Her dreams are to move forward and to have better health.
