A loan of $825 helped to buy more raw materials and equipment to manufacture tin pepper.

Bernard's story

Bernard H. is thirty year old businessman. He is married with two children, who are both in school. He is a small scale manufacturer of tin pepper near the community market. He buys fresh and dry pepper, mills and processes them into canned pepper, and then supplies them to food vendors and restaurant operators. His operation is on a limited scale due to inadequate capital to buy machines for the processing.

Bernard wants to take advantage of the loan opportunity to buy more raw materials and equipment to increase his efficiency and produce in larger quantities. He believes this can help expand his business to produce a larger income to help finance his children’s education.

He belongs to the community group called Nyame Boafo ("The helping God") Trust Group. In this group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral and act as peer pressure to repay the loan.
