A loan of $650 helped to buy bricks, cement, sand, iron, and labor.

María Lourdes's story

El Sauce is a beautiful western city surrounded by mountains in bloom in the winter where milk and cuajada, a cheese that the locals produce, are abundant. There are many people here who are hard-working and determined, like in the case of María Lourdes. She is forty-four and a single mother of two children who are in high school. She has made a living working as an elementary school teacher for twenty-five years. This work is of great merit because people that teach have a great spirit and prepare professionals who are the future of our country. She is a woman who is admired by people in El Sauce because she is taking care of her children alone without the help of their father. With her small salary, she fights to have a dignified life. Thanks to her job, today she has her own home, which she has improved little by little with the help of loans. She wants to expand it to offer a good inheritance to her children, which is why she is requesting a loan from Kiva. She will pay it back with her salary in fifteen months and will use it to buy bricks, cement, sand, iron, and labor to construct a porch to have more space. She trusts in God that her request will be approved by these good-hearted investors that will help her to fulfill the dreams of people with scarce resources.
